Cafe Church

On 31st July our morning worship, led by Revd Kate Hackett, was held in the church hall. This was a Service with a difference, where coffee and pastries/biscuits were served before and during the service. We sat around tables, as in a cafe, rather than in the formal rows of chairs in the Church sanctuary. We enjoyed hymns, readings and prayers as in any other Service but with a more informal atmosphere. A warm and friendly welcome was given to all.

An essential part of any Christian worship is fellowship and having a service where we could join with each other around a table and have a hot drink gave us an opportunity to share in such fellowship. This was a new experience for some at St James’s but most enjoyable; feedback was very positive.

Kate’s theme for Cafe Church was Joy: “Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” Psalm 30:5. Her chosen interactive resources allowed time for reflection, conversation and sharing our thoughts and ideas. All ages were very much involved in the service and we enjoyed a good chat too.
